Pioneered by Edmund Husserl in the early 20th century, phenomenology sought to understand the structures of experience and consciousness by "bracketing" preconceived notions about reality. While it has influenced disciplines like psychology, sociology, and even cognitive science, phenomenology's prominence as a scientific method waned over time. But why?
The Rise of Positivism and Empiricism
In the mid-20th century, the dominance of empiricism and positivism in science led to a preference for methods that prioritized measurable, objective data.
